When K2 was first developed, it was a Victor Group-exclusive technology, which would give us the edge over other companies in the same field. Furthermore, it was mainly promoted for use in professional equipment and professional systems, so the general public knew very little about it. It was originally used as technology for creating high-quality sound during the production of CDs and other music media within the Group, and the development and application continued to evolve so that it was eventually mounted in a wide range of consumer appliances and used in a wide variety of places where discs were manufactured in order to improve product and sound quality. However, the backlash of this was that it began to be circulated under various logos and labels depicting the software (CD), hardware (consumer appliances) and place of manufacture (factory), which had the adverse effect of users having difficulty recognizing the effects of K2 in detail. Although K2 was critically acclaimed at the professional level, it was not widely distributed to general users and music fans, and they consequently had little understanding of just how useful the K2 series, with its large lineup of versions, actually was.

The unification of usage restrictions, including the worldwide registration of trademarks featuring a new logo design, was carried out in September 2006 in order to make K2 technology even more appealing. The method of promoting K2 was also drastically revised, and policies that allowed its widespread use without it being restricted only to Victor Entertainment (software-related) were established. In January 2007, Victor Group exhibited K2 technology at midem. midem is the yearly international b2b event dedicated to the new music ecosystem, with a tradeshow, conferences, competitions, networking and gigs. This was officially announced heralding the start of the new K2 technology under the names of net K2 and K2HD Mastering being expanded on an industry base, including overseas,
